Richard Henry Blood, besser bekannt unter seinem Ringnamen Ricky "The Dragon" Steamboat, wurde am 28.Februar 1953 in West Point, New York geboren. Blood ist ein Sohn von einer japanischen Mutter und einem englischen Vater, zudem hat er noch seinen Bruder Vic Steamboat. Da sein Vater ein US-Soldat war, lebte er in verschiedenen Ländern wie die Türkei, Italien, Alaska und Deutschland. Nach seiner Karriere arbeitete Steamboat als Leiter eines Fitness-Studio und vermietete es im Jahre 2000. Ab dem Jahre 2005 unterschrieb er einen erneuten Vertrag bei World Wrestling Entertainment und arbeitet fortan als Road Agent. Er war verheiratet und hat einen Sohn, der unter dem Namen Richie Steamboat unterwegs ist.
